Last
year Randalstown District Loyal Orange Lodge (LOL) No.
22 produced a Badge in memory of the two young soldiers who were
murdered by
dissident republicans outside Massereene Barracks, Antrim on 7th March.
Sappers
Mark Quinsey, 23, from Birmingham, and Patrick Azimkar, 21,
from north London, were killed in the gun attack at Massereene
Army
Barracks. Another two soldiers and two pizza delivery boys
were
also injured.
The sappers had been due to leave for Afghanistan that week.
The
murders happened only 4 miles from Randalstown and we wanted to do
something to help support and also show our solidarity with the
Royal
Engineers who had been based at Antrim for many years.
The
badges have been sold by Randalstown Distict LOL 22 to raise money
for the Royal Engineers Benevolent Fund.
Recently
we presented a cheque for £15,000 to the REA. As you can
see from the articles we were privileged to have Colonel John McLennan,
Controller of the REA with us to receive the cheque.
Please
check out the web link below and the attached documents for
further information regarding the Massereene Poppy Badge. You
will also
see from this that we have the full support of the families.

Perhaps
you could pass this information to your Branch members and also
to your local Royal British Legion who may wish to purchase the badges
and
support this appeal and the memory of Pat and Mark.
I
would also appreciate it it if you could forward this email on to all
your email contacts and ask them to forward it to their contacts and
help
spread the word.
There
are still badges available - the attached poster provides a photo
of the badge and also details on how to purchase the badges.
If
you have any queries please contact me.
Thanks
and best regards,
Alan

Our association was founded 9 years ago
by a group of like minded ex-boys in 2000.We had our first re-union in
October 2000, and have subsequently met every October since.....The
original aim was to reunite all those who started their service with
the Boys Squadron Aldershot and then its successor the Junior Leaders
Regiment Dover, or served as permanent staff. We have now opened up
membership to graduates from the Army Foundation College also, when
badged RE.In
2009, it will be the 10th anniversary of our founding, and with a
growing and enthusiastic membership, support for the future of the
Branch looks assured.
